Contemporary Cliff Home

Perched upon a cliff on the rocky desert shores of the Pacific Ocean in Peru, this retreat by Longhi Architects cuts multiple stories into the earth below while lofting a set of glass-sided boxes up, out and over a series of pools and walkways below. These overlapping boxes move upward from the smooth intersection of road and site, topped with sand-covered roofs that serve as regionally-appropriate alternatives in a climate not ready to support strictly ‘green’ surfaces. From within the home, the views out are (naturally) remarkable on the higher levels, but equally impressive are the ways in which the lower floors are left raw and rough-cut, looking almost like abandoned and half-buried ruins on top of which the rest of the structure was built.

Acapulco Boasts One of The Worlds Finest Homes

The Arrango House. Acapulco, Mexico. Completed in 1973, John Lautner refined innovations in siting, material, and structure he had been perfecting in earlier projects. Its bold curves celebrate the sculptural qualities of concrete, which he liked to experiment with (he worked often with engineer T.Y. Lin, who pioneered prestressed concrete). Modernists have fused architecture and site by extending structures into the landscape. Lautner turned this tenet on its head, conceiving the house as an extension of the rugged topography and using form to set up the exterior views similar to his mentor Frank Lloyd Wright. Boulders thrust their way inside to become bedroom walls and they help regulate interior temperatures as well. The upper level is cantilevered out from the hill to block out lights from houses below and to give occupants the impression they’re walking on air between the sky and the bay.    John Lautner’s “Arango House”Acapulco, Mexico

Modern and Contemporary Spa Le Source in Canada

The Le Source Health spa within the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada, has three impressive features that mix its modern architecture within the surroundings. It features striking positioning on the mountainside, the utilization of natural building materials, and breathtaking sights seen through the windows. Montreal-based firm Blouin Tardif Architecture-Environment were the brains behind the concept of this health spa. Three levels covering 800 square meters welcome visitors at a reception desk that guides clientele towards the 13 massage spaces and 2 new lounges at the establishment. Integrating the architecture from the health spa into the surroundings was a challenge for the designers because they needed to maintain the flow with the environment. Each floor was split into two levels for better incorporation into the mountainside. The relaxation element here is amazing.  The serenity of the mountainside and the pampering of the spa treatment will set your soul free and allow you freshen your respective and recharge your batteries.

Santorini | Cave Homes Have Modern Interiors and Ultra Cool Designs

The oldest and most simple form of residence in the Aegean Sea area is cave houses -- traditional buildings which are found inside the rocks with a domelike roof, a narrow facade, and narrow but long spaces inside. Santorini is known for its cave houses, and people from all over the world come to the island just to see them. Some specifically ask to book cave houses - which are transformed to hotel rooms as long as they reside on the island for vacations. According to tradition, the cave houses were created by ship crews in order to survive and live in despite the steepness of the cliff. Some say that cave houses were also used as stables for mules and other animals.A technique that the Santorinian people still use today in house building is the application of mud (Santorinian dirt and water) on the walls along with some small parts of red rocks that are added for reinforcement of the mixture. Sometimes they even use pressed cement with red or white color to cover the floors and surfaces of the internal and external spaces. If there is space, there is also a small garden outside the house where herbs and flowers are planted, adding an extra note to the already colorful environment of the island.

O House | Minimalist Design

This is a beautiful minimalist mountain home design “O House” designed by  architect Philippe Stuebi. This surreal home is located in Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. The natural views surrounding the home are humbling. The luxury villa architecture expresses simplicity and allows nature to be the largest artwork in this collection. Top notch architectural detailing allow this project to be one sure to receive accolades. The lake elevation with superb mountain views of the Rigi and the Burgenstock displays a protruding, glistering loggia created from round glass bricks. These decorative elements are a strong contrast to the rough renderings of the side facades. The basement nestles along the slope and opens into a large fitness area with a 25-meter swimming pool, half inside, half outside, that is inserted in a white terrazzo plate. The terrazzo plate extends gracefully from the pool bar positioned inside along the boathouse created from white tinted, rough jetted concrete into Lake Lucerne. The following is The O House  design pictures collection.
