How to Style Your Home Like a Designer with Accessories

Your home is your personal oasis and you should love being there. Comfortable furniture, soothing natural light, and accessories can make an empty shell feel like the most cozy and inviting place to ever exist. With just a few simple steps, your home will look professionally designed and you’ll love spending time there and inviting guests over. Let’s take a look at how you can style your home like a designer with accessories.

Types of Accessories

The first step to accessorizing your home is becoming knowledgeable about the different types of accessories there are. The possibilities are endless and if you’re able to choose some that suit your personality and natural vibe, you’re well on your way to having a gorgeous home. Mixing and matching different accessory types will help you to achieve an absolutely stunning look.

Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular home accessories that designers use:

 ●     Artwork

●     Sculptures

●     Vases

●     Area rugs

●     Plants

How to Choose

When selecting your home accessories remember the golden rule: “quality over quantity.” Unless it’s the look you’re going for, you really don’t need a million little items to make a statement. Having too many accessories can easily make your home look overwhelming and cluttered to both you and your guests.

You can avoid a cluttered and unorganized look by choosing one or two key pieces that make a bold or sentimental statement. To decide on a key piece, you may want to choose:

 ●     An item you got while traveling

●     A handmade piece

●     A woven basket from a local street vendor

●     An heirloom

●     Framed photos

●     A mirror with a unique frame and shape

If you select just one or two key pieces and decorate around them, you’ll have such a successful housewarming party, your guests won’t want to leave. While we recommended keeping modern and traditional styles separated, we also recommended using your discretion. Make your space yours by using a little here and a little therex wherever you see fit.

Decorating

Now that you know the different types of accessories and how to choose your key pieces, let’s talk about the most important step: actually decorating your space. An important factor for ensuring you have cohesive design across your entire space is thinking about your color scheme. For example, if you’re aiming for a teal, gray, and white color scheme, avoid selecting a bright orange key piece. While your home does not have to be obnoxiously matched to a tee, try to keep your accessories and decor within one color palette.

Lamps, fireplace hearths, and quality frames can serve as decor pieces and functional tools for your home. Tie rooms together and complete themes by selecting a lamp or fireplace heart that seamlessly compliments your key piece.

Versatility

The best home decor is versatile home decor. If you like to change the look of your home with the seasons, choose accessories that are easy to swap out. This way, you’ll be able to get creative and make changes as often as you’d like. Tap into your artistic side and try different colors, styles, and textures throughout your home to give it a unique pop.

Be Inspired

When you enter the home decor section of a store, you may get overwhelmed. With aisles and aisles of options, you might not know where to start. Long before your arrival at the store, you need to:

 ●     Find inspiration

●     Decide on a color scheme

●     Understand your unique style

●     Make a list

By following these four simple steps, you’ll be able to shop with confidence and avoid having to make any returns. Choose to shop for your home accessories on a free day when you’re not pressed for time. Take time to walk through each aisle and compare items before making a purchase.

Have Fun

Yes, you want your home to be picture perfect — but there’s no need for your accessorizing process to be stressful or strenuous. If you need to, ask a friend or family member to help you out. What’s most important is that you have fun and enjoy your hard work at the end of the day. Pour a glass of your favorite beverage, whip up some yummy snacks, and ‘decor’ the night away. Good luck and cheers to having a beautifully decorated home!

7 Strategies That Will Take the Hassle Out of Moving House

So, you’ve decided it’s time for a new beginning? With the thoughts of moving from your humble abode and making new memories in your brand-new home, moving house can be an exciting time indeed.

But before you let the excitement of your new adventure take over, you should remember that you still have to go through the not-so-fun process of packing and moving all your worldly possessions from one house to another!

It’s no cakewalk. In fact, moving house has been proven to be one of the most stressful events we can undergo in our lives! It doesn’t have to be this way though.

Here are some strategies to take the stress out of moving home.

  1. Say Goodbye to the Things You Don’t Need

Generally, when you look around, each part of your home holds some significance or sentimental value. The souvenirs on your shelf from your trip to Belize. The cabinet you bought from that vintage store which happened to perfectly match your interior vibe. It’s hard to say goodbye to anything that ‘may come in handy later’ or holds a certain emotional pull. That said, before you start mindlessly packing your life away, it’s important to purge any unnecessary items that will end up cluttering your new space.  Remember the words of Marie Kondo and ask yourself, ”Does this spark joy?“ when deciding what to cull. The items you decide to eliminate or donate now will help ease your packing process and without a doubt help activate your house-moving zen.So, put up some moving sale banners and have yourself a gold old lawn sale a couple of weeks before you move.

  1. Make a Plan!

Before you begin aimlessly packing your home in no particular order, stop! If you want to eliminate stress from your move, write a ‘moving-house’ to-do list. Set out each part of your move by setting yourself tasks and goals to achieve by certain dates.Packing up your home can be overwhelming, to say the least. Many of us accumulate an incredible amount of ‘stuff’ so getting it all from a to b can feel like a mammoth task. By breaking everything down into sizeable chunks, you’ll not only pack more efficiently, but you’ll also reduce your stress level too! What’s more, creating a list will ensure you don’t forget any essential steps which come with moving house. While on the surface, you may think that moving only involves packing your things into boxes, writing a list will help you remember things like changing your address or cleaning your new home. The time spent writing a list now will ultimately save you time, money and heartache in the long run!

  1. Protect Your Stuff!

Moving house can take its toll on your furniture, fixtures and fittings. Before moving day comes, make sure you have a plan in place for how you’re going to protect everything. One of the biggest victims of your move will undoubtedly be your floors. If you have carpets, make sure you lay some plastic so dirt trailed in from the high volume of foot-traffic doesn’t impact them.Wooden flooring is perhaps the biggest concern with moving though. Even if you have the best hardwood floor with the highest Janka rating, scratches and scrapes from furniture are still possible. Make sure you have plenty of towels to put under heavy items, including boxes, to preserve your floors.

  1. Take Photos of Your Rooms

The trouble with moving is that sometimes it feels like you’re destroying your masterpiece. If that’s the case for you, before you pack everything up, take some photos or draw a sketch.  While your new place may not lend itself to your old style, you can still use these images as guides to reinvigorate your design mojo or challenge yourself to switch it up.

  1. Use What You Got!

You just got back from your fifth trip to store but you forgot the one thing you went there for in the first place: plastic wrap for all your precious breakables. Not to worry. Save yourself some time and re-purpose what you have lying around. For example, spare towels or old tea towels, or even odd socks can be used as padding to keep your glassware and fine china safe from harm. Also, remember that garbage bags can be your best friend. It’s likely that you have an abundance of these little gems in your kitchen drawer, so use them wherever you can. Keep hung clothes on coat hangers and simply cover over with a bag; toss your shoes in one; or even fill one with your children’s soft toys. Just don’t forget these garbage bags don’t belong in the trash!

  1. Categorize Your Belongings

Categorizing your belongings can reduce the headache of both packing and unpacking. You can either do this by belonging type or by room, depending upon how you want to unpack at the other end. If you’re doing it by room, make sure you do one room at a time. If you’re doing this by belonging type, get out your trusty pen and paper and categorize your items before you start!

  1. Label or Color-Code Your Boxes

There’s nothing more frustrating than neatly packing all of your things into boxes, only to forget which is which. This is where you can get creative and have a little fun with your packing. Add labels or color-code your boxes so you know exactly what’s inside. Just like with the previous tip, you can choose to label by room or item type, it’s up to you! Either way, this hack will save you a headache later on. Future ‘you’ will thank you!

  1. Make a First Week Survival Kit

So many people get so caught up in packing up their old home that they completely forget about what happens when they get to their new one! It’s something you rarely think about until you’re standing in your new home, surrounded by boxes, but your things are not all going to be unpacked as soon as you arrive. The last thing you want to do after long and exhausting moving day is sift through a mountain of boxes in search of those few essential items. So, plan ahead and prepare a box or bag that will see you few the first few days. Consider personal items as well as essential household items that’ll add a sense of comfort in your otherwise unfamiliar new space!  Guest post by: SignMission

Head Turning Home Interiors

When I think of Missoni I think of distinctive fluidity and motifs that transcend the spirit of time. Poetic multicolored extensions of luxury fabrics that have draped everyone from models, celebrities and myself a time or two. I’ve been a Missoni devotee for years and fondly remember trips to our local vintage store scavenging the racks in hopes of that one great find!  Established in 1953, sheer fortitude brought the once mom and pop knitwear shop in Italy to the global empire it is today. Missoni has been affectionately diversifying and growing prosperously far beyond their iconic and refined womenswear. Known for their instantly recognizable vibrant patterns I’ve been obsessed with the whimsicality of it all! Chevron, zigzag and vibrant patterns adorn Misson’s archives. Saturated with color their fabrics can alter a dwelling into an inviting and exhilarating experience. What some of you may not know is that they design equally fabulous home décor collections! They have been dominating in all segments and I love how they brought their infamous brand to the world of interiors! The fashion powerhouse has stayed true to their brand with their bold colors and contrasting prints. I wanted to share with you some of their new home décor pieces that has captivated me once again. Sit back and relish in the visual and tactile prints intertwined with great layers of colors and textures. The new energy is inescapable in the most satisfying way…

The Hottest Trends In Home Decor~ Summer 2018

From glamour to natural tones, this time Beasley & Henley presents to you the summer trends for 2018. Summer is the time to give your home a face lift and a leap into creating something beautiful. Last year we saw a lot of metallics, tropical prints and embracing your inner bohemian. This summer we are going to see ceiling that pop, ice-cream pastels, the perfect imperfect effects of Terrazzo and more! Long gone is the need for a space to feel thematic and matchy. You want rooms that have a variety of textures, prints and materials that work together and are cohesive. May the warmth of the summers rays bring a more carefree, eclectic and stylish home to all. Here are a few of our favorite home decor trends of Summer 2018!GEN Z YellowThis summer we say goodbye to millennial pink, there is a new hue in town. Let's take a moment and give a gracious bow to Gen Z Yellow. She's a little more carefree, outgoing and bold. She wants to be noticed in an effortless way. She's multifaceted and not afraid to tailor her shade to match ones personality.  You can achieve her glow with textiles, accessories, lighting or furniture. Gen Z Yellow can make a glowing appearance through a light fixture, flower arrangement, artwork, throw or as simple as bath towels.         TerrazzoTerrazzo may not be for everyone, but for those who just love the look of  mid-century styles, you will be ecstatic by its resurrection. This summer you will see it reworking into different colors and more creative applications. The perfectly imperfect terrazzo consists of materials such as granite, quartz, glass and marble. It's an undoubtedly bold look with a sea of versatility. If your not looking to replace your flooring or counter tops no worries. You can apply this pattern into a kitchen backsplash, wallpaper or home accessory.    Bone InlayBone inlay of one of this summer's hottest trends. It is a decorative technique that consists of inserting small pieces of bone, shell or ivory into a pattern. The variation gives every accessory and piece of furniture it's striking character. It can be the perfect conversational piece providing your home with design and interest. The intricate patterns create striking textural contrasts that we love to see in homes.    Decorative CeilingsCeilings that pop will be all the rage this summer! This are looking up in the world of ceiling designs and we are all in! We love the wow factor in a home and the 5th wall can be the way to achieve that!  Whether painted a bold hue, applied moldings, plaster work,  shiplap or exposed beams ceilings are as hot as a summers day on Miami Beach.   TextureTexture is such a big thing this summer. You will see furniture that has a more natural handmade feel such as rattan and wicker. Textiles with lots of embellishments will be irresistible to the touch.  From textural wall patterns to baskets texture is everything! Woven furniture, lighting and accessories offer a visual interest without being impactful in color. I feel texture makes a home warmer, lived in and welcoming.

The Great Love Affair With A White Kitchen

We love a dazzling kitchen and have been in love with the classic white kitchen for some time now. White kitchens repeatedly stand the test of time and unlike prominent misconceptions, they don't have to be stark and plain. Some may also say too much white can make a kitchen feel, sterile and unwelcoming. We are hear to debunk those pesky little rumors once and for all! Crisp, clean white kitchens with gleaming marble counter tops make our hearts skip a beat. White makes a space appear larger and airier and will enhance other design elements. Your light fixtures form into sculptural elements, your stainless appliances sparkle, and richer toned flooring gains an extra hint of luxury against white cabinetry. There are many variations to a white kitchen that can be adapted to your home. A grand and welcoming white kitchen can be quickly warmed up by adding a few key elements. You may desire to add a butcher block counter, a colored mosaic tile back splash, a copper chandelier or contrasting lower cabinets for warmth. Another great way to add warmth to an all white kitchen is in the form of flooring and furniture, which also adds a bit of charm and character to the space. White also makes for the perfect backdrop for small dashes of bold color too! If you are looking for a more untroubled and smoothing space, add other light neutrals, such as shades of gray, tan and beige.

White cabinetry paired with a white tiled back splash is scrumptious!  With this real white on white color pattern, you can introduce pops of color like sunny yellow!

A great way to add warmth to your white kitchen is by adding natural wood flooring a different colored back splash and island.

Two toned kitchen cabinets are still having a big moment! The darker shade on the bottom allows you to make a statement while simultaneously helping to ground the space. It will also make the space look larger because the white upper will help draw the eye upward.

White kitchens give off a sense of luxury and when paired with bold statement looking pendant lights your kitchen is sure to make a lasting impression!

Adding wood tones furniture pieces to your white kitchen adds the perfect amount of warmth to the space.

Adding shades of beige, gray and taupe's make for a luxurious kitchen!

The Perfectly Imperfect World Of Wabi-Sabi

I recently attended a Sherwin Williams color forecast seminar. They spoke about what trends we will see in 2018 and what influenced them. Sincerity, unity and connectivity were the three topics of discussion. Some of 2018's trends were based upon silence, Instagram, treasuring your flaws, revamping our sense of community, techies being the new hippies, productivity and environmentalism. Thought provoking and moving as they were, the topic of finding beauty in the imperfect was what stood out to me the most.  How a hyper-local approach allows us to connect with our roots in a sustainable way. They spoke about the world of Wabi-Sabi. It's not the fiery paste that ignites a storm in your nostrils, but a decorating style and way of life. Wabi-Sabi interiors favor a more minimal approach and sees the beauty in timeworn treasures. There is a mutual respect for natural objects which can overlap into our everyday lives. The way one thinks, works and the mindset of becoming increasingly unencumbered. For example clearing the clutter from your home. The more clutter the more one feels distracted from whatever calm your home provides. The Wabi- Sabi approach teaches one to simplify, don't buy what you don't need and take time to block out noise and technology. This approach does not have time for the over-stressed consumer culture.Wabi-Sabi tends to lean into minimalism. In an intentionally modest way, but not in a stark way. One can appreciate the flaw and injured in the Wabi-Sabi thinking. Go ahead and be conscious of a room's unwitting flawlessness. Enjoy the imperfections of your grandparents rich oak dining table, or a crack in vase that makes it more interesting, giving it a greater meditative value. The quirks that can arise in the construction of an object add to it's uniqueness and beauty according to the Wabi-Sabi way. Its patina or visible repairs heighten the love of a space. If you find yourself in favor of this style, then earthy tones is the best way to go. Browns, greens and grey colors with worn unfinished, imperfectly shaped pieces will fit perfectly with the Wabi-Sabi concept. Look for natural handmade fabrics and accessories. Natural stone, clay and wood become interesting in a Wabi-Sabi space as they exhibit changes that can be observed over time. Remember this style  is not a shabby chic . These pieces are not intentionally distressed to look antique they are pieces that have evolved over a natural cycle of growth.  I'm also in favor of letting filtered light permeate our homes. Too much harsh light doesn't give one lift one's mood and general well-being as much as filtered light. A Wabi-Sabi aesthetic is big on hanging thin, gauzy curtains inside. With all that said go ahead and look at some ideas below and get inspired!

Was That A Pumpkin That Just Fell On My Head? ~Fall Home Decor 2017~

As I was mirthfully walking down the isle of my favorite home décor stores when I was stopped dead in my tracks by the site of brightly painted pumpkins. Yes, that is what I said, pumpkins! The vision of the plastic, pulp free robust symbols of the upcoming holidays got me thinking of Fall. Believe it or not, it’s just around the corner and I’m setting my sights on what hues and home design trends are about make their presence felt. When the weather makes a shift (a slight one for those of us here in Florida), you can make a few modifications to your home as well. There are a lot of trends that are really beautiful, but not everyone wants or needs to give their home a complete makeover. I can show you a few  and easy ways to transition your home to the look of fall 2017.

Velvet!

The beauty in velvet is its ability to speak. It should have an elegant soft voice that’s heard, without over powering the conversation. It’s important to choose one show stopping upholstery fabric and velvet may just be your ticket! The fabric feels luxurious and welcoming for fall. When combined with smooth metals and natural textures it adds visual interest and palpable alleviation. If you don’t have the budget for an upholstered sofa add a velvet throw or accent pillows instead!

Blush

I am lovingeverything blush! From vintage glassware and bedding to my Sunday Brunch’s eye shadow, this refreshing color speaks of youth and femininity. If you’re not the frilly type popping a blush throw or frame into a space is less serious, and overwhelming.  By coordinating blush with elements and materials found in nature you can create a more contemporary edge and looks stunning mixed with stone and marble. If you are looking for a more ethereal look you can create a space that's monochromatic. No matter how you choose to add this gorgeous color into your space it will certainly keep you blushing.I’m asked what colors look best with blush from time to time. I say it looks great with greys or warm neutrals, and fresh when paired with rose gold metallic or trendy copper. Here are a few of my favorite ways to incorporate the color blush into your home's decor.

Classic White

Hardly boring, neutral white can virtually go with everything and anything. From glossy to chalky it’s a calm and cool vibe that I love! White adds an inherent easiness to any space it graces. It fits seamlessly into any design scheme or style. I love how crisp white walls can bring a modern edge to a room’s vintage stylings or how a white accessory can pop against a dark wood toned console table.

Furniture & Accessories That Double As Art

Art is taking center stage this fall. It’s no longer an afterthought or left as the last part of the puzzle. People will be basing their entire rooms around it and I’m not just talking about the art you hang on your walls. I’m talking about furniture and accessories that double as art. We will see interiors that are anchored not only by art but artful design pieces.

~Dive Right INTO A POOL OF GEOMETRIC BLISS ~

Are you craving a little something different in your home’s decor? Are you looking to occupy a space in your home that has an architectural flair? If you are,  you may want to add a little geometry to your world. I’m not speaking of the math class you took in high school, but the geometric world of funky hexagons and fearless patterns. The geometric trend is a perfect way to energize your home. It’s a fabulous way to breathe life into a space and enhance a minimalist point of view and give a room an incredible polished look. If you want a room to look like you hired a designer, you’re going to have add a few pops of visual interest to your interiors. Patterns are fundamental and meet interior designer’s basic requirements while looking famously modern.Deciding to incorporate geometric into your home can be easy, but I am always asked how far should a person go? Do you use the patterns as an accent role or do you want to make a  bold statement with wallpaper? It’s about understanding which elements of a room should play the leading role and which should act as an assisting director. If you choose to add more than one geometric pattern go ahead. Having a slight variation between the tones keeps things feeling unoriginal. I just love the unexpected and so may you! Below are a few ways to you can add a little geometric flair to a space. Always remember have a little fun, be a little daring and never be boring!

An open airy construction piece just as West Elem’s below can provide and artful component to a negative space!

Sophistication meets geometry with a prism coffee table. It has a refined softness to it while furthering the modern look you are trying to achieve. It stimulates the senses every time one engages with it.

Blue & Gold Geometric Shower Curtain By Society 6

By adding a bold geometric rug you can make a bold WOW statement, like our designers did below. They added a small geometric metal accessory to tie the look together:

Another geometric trend is the addition of patterns and finishes to a piece of furniture. Here are two of our favorites!

The Haynes design is an innovative, architectural display and storage solution of pretty Mondrian geometries grounded by a black lacquer inset base. The grid design features useful pedestals and shelves that cantilever, suspend or float on the substantial iron frame.

How To Design Your Dream Dining Room

An inviting dining space is a home essential and chances are it’s one room in your home that could use a little attention. It’s not only about function, but a little fashion as well. It’s much more than just eating. It should be about the ambiance people feel when they dine in your home. A space where family and friends make time to share their lives. A place where a little drama may erupt in conversation or a place where a little drama can be felt within the décor. Your table is the anchor of the room and the surrounding chairs are just as important.  You want a table set that looks great, serves your dining needs and will last a long time. It’s important to take the time to select the right table for your room’s size and purpose. If you’re looking to go smaller or for great conversation and social gatherings, a round table is a great option. If you’re looking to go larger, a rectangular is popular choice. Most importantly don’t forget to confirm your dining room’s available space before making any table purchases. “Measure and measure again to before falling in love with a table that just won’t work.   It’s fun to add an eclectic mix of chairs to your dining space and a great way to add your own personal style. Make sure they are the right height for your table before falling in love with them!  I also love the look of a bench. So often in a dining space we think of individual chairs as our only choice. A bench with a medley of chairs works for any style of dining space from formal to casual, traditional to transitional. You can also cozy up to your favorite person and squeeze in a few more people during the holidays.  Plan for beautiful lighting in your dining room. Include that uniquely gorgeous chandelier you have been eyeing for a while now. The right fixture can do your space a major favour and exhibit your personal style. It can easily contribute to mood and functionality of the room. A light fixture is like a beautiful piece of jewelry that’s enjoyed from a far. It can be more adventurous because no one’s touching these hanging works of art. Your chandelier can act as the sculptural element in your dining room. It can create the exact mood in which you choose to feel in the space. Don’t forget to consider the diameter and height in which you choose to have your chandelier hung when redecorating the space.
