The Hottest Trends In Home Decor~ Summer 2018

From glamour to natural tones, this time Beasley & Henley presents to you the summer trends for 2018. Summer is the time to give your home a face lift and a leap into creating something beautiful. Last year we saw a lot of metallics, tropical prints and embracing your inner bohemian. This summer we are going to see ceiling that pop, ice-cream pastels, the perfect imperfect effects of Terrazzo and more! Long gone is the need for a space to feel thematic and matchy. You want rooms that have a variety of textures, prints and materials that work together and are cohesive. May the warmth of the summers rays bring a more carefree, eclectic and stylish home to all. Here are a few of our favorite home decor trends of Summer 2018!GEN Z YellowThis summer we say goodbye to millennial pink, there is a new hue in town. Let's take a moment and give a gracious bow to Gen Z Yellow. She's a little more carefree, outgoing and bold. She wants to be noticed in an effortless way. She's multifaceted and not afraid to tailor her shade to match ones personality.  You can achieve her glow with textiles, accessories, lighting or furniture. Gen Z Yellow can make a glowing appearance through a light fixture, flower arrangement, artwork, throw or as simple as bath towels.         TerrazzoTerrazzo may not be for everyone, but for those who just love the look of  mid-century styles, you will be ecstatic by its resurrection. This summer you will see it reworking into different colors and more creative applications. The perfectly imperfect terrazzo consists of materials such as granite, quartz, glass and marble. It's an undoubtedly bold look with a sea of versatility. If your not looking to replace your flooring or counter tops no worries. You can apply this pattern into a kitchen backsplash, wallpaper or home accessory.    Bone InlayBone inlay of one of this summer's hottest trends. It is a decorative technique that consists of inserting small pieces of bone, shell or ivory into a pattern. The variation gives every accessory and piece of furniture it's striking character. It can be the perfect conversational piece providing your home with design and interest. The intricate patterns create striking textural contrasts that we love to see in homes.    Decorative CeilingsCeilings that pop will be all the rage this summer! This are looking up in the world of ceiling designs and we are all in! We love the wow factor in a home and the 5th wall can be the way to achieve that!  Whether painted a bold hue, applied moldings, plaster work,  shiplap or exposed beams ceilings are as hot as a summers day on Miami Beach.   TextureTexture is such a big thing this summer. You will see furniture that has a more natural handmade feel such as rattan and wicker. Textiles with lots of embellishments will be irresistible to the touch.  From textural wall patterns to baskets texture is everything! Woven furniture, lighting and accessories offer a visual interest without being impactful in color. I feel texture makes a home warmer, lived in and welcoming.

The Great Love Affair With A White Kitchen

We love a dazzling kitchen and have been in love with the classic white kitchen for some time now. White kitchens repeatedly stand the test of time and unlike prominent misconceptions, they don't have to be stark and plain. Some may also say too much white can make a kitchen feel, sterile and unwelcoming. We are hear to debunk those pesky little rumors once and for all! Crisp, clean white kitchens with gleaming marble counter tops make our hearts skip a beat. White makes a space appear larger and airier and will enhance other design elements. Your light fixtures form into sculptural elements, your stainless appliances sparkle, and richer toned flooring gains an extra hint of luxury against white cabinetry. There are many variations to a white kitchen that can be adapted to your home. A grand and welcoming white kitchen can be quickly warmed up by adding a few key elements. You may desire to add a butcher block counter, a colored mosaic tile back splash, a copper chandelier or contrasting lower cabinets for warmth. Another great way to add warmth to an all white kitchen is in the form of flooring and furniture, which also adds a bit of charm and character to the space. White also makes for the perfect backdrop for small dashes of bold color too! If you are looking for a more untroubled and smoothing space, add other light neutrals, such as shades of gray, tan and beige.

White cabinetry paired with a white tiled back splash is scrumptious!  With this real white on white color pattern, you can introduce pops of color like sunny yellow!

A great way to add warmth to your white kitchen is by adding natural wood flooring a different colored back splash and island.

Two toned kitchen cabinets are still having a big moment! The darker shade on the bottom allows you to make a statement while simultaneously helping to ground the space. It will also make the space look larger because the white upper will help draw the eye upward.

White kitchens give off a sense of luxury and when paired with bold statement looking pendant lights your kitchen is sure to make a lasting impression!

Adding wood tones furniture pieces to your white kitchen adds the perfect amount of warmth to the space.

Adding shades of beige, gray and taupe's make for a luxurious kitchen!

What Do You Want Your Thanksgiving Table To Say To You?

I would like to start off by asking you a question. How often do you stand back and reflect on what you have to be grateful for? I ask this because this year has been big year of reflection for me. It's been a year of mindful contemplation and thankfulness that I carry forward from month to month. My soul is a little richer and filled with the joy that my mind has allowed me to feel how beautiful things really are. I've become accustomed to such a life and see its incredible beauty.   Like the infectious smile of a cherub faced baby I hope you find it difficult to hide the jubilation this holiday season brings upon you. With Thanksgiving  just a few days away I hope the thankful spirit spreads from my table to yours. Almost as important as the food itself, is the Thanksgiving table and I want to share some of my favorite dining table decor  with you. Whether your reminiscing about Thanksgiving past or anticipating this years celebration, your dining table should reflect those memories. How much or little you decide to decorate is up to you, but your guests will undoubtedly appreciate the thought you put into creating a special place for them. Here are a few items you can add to your table settings as inspiration for you to create your own memorable design.

The Perfectly Imperfect World Of Wabi-Sabi

I recently attended a Sherwin Williams color forecast seminar. They spoke about what trends we will see in 2018 and what influenced them. Sincerity, unity and connectivity were the three topics of discussion. Some of 2018's trends were based upon silence, Instagram, treasuring your flaws, revamping our sense of community, techies being the new hippies, productivity and environmentalism. Thought provoking and moving as they were, the topic of finding beauty in the imperfect was what stood out to me the most.  How a hyper-local approach allows us to connect with our roots in a sustainable way. They spoke about the world of Wabi-Sabi. It's not the fiery paste that ignites a storm in your nostrils, but a decorating style and way of life. Wabi-Sabi interiors favor a more minimal approach and sees the beauty in timeworn treasures. There is a mutual respect for natural objects which can overlap into our everyday lives. The way one thinks, works and the mindset of becoming increasingly unencumbered. For example clearing the clutter from your home. The more clutter the more one feels distracted from whatever calm your home provides. The Wabi- Sabi approach teaches one to simplify, don't buy what you don't need and take time to block out noise and technology. This approach does not have time for the over-stressed consumer culture.Wabi-Sabi tends to lean into minimalism. In an intentionally modest way, but not in a stark way. One can appreciate the flaw and injured in the Wabi-Sabi thinking. Go ahead and be conscious of a room's unwitting flawlessness. Enjoy the imperfections of your grandparents rich oak dining table, or a crack in vase that makes it more interesting, giving it a greater meditative value. The quirks that can arise in the construction of an object add to it's uniqueness and beauty according to the Wabi-Sabi way. Its patina or visible repairs heighten the love of a space. If you find yourself in favor of this style, then earthy tones is the best way to go. Browns, greens and grey colors with worn unfinished, imperfectly shaped pieces will fit perfectly with the Wabi-Sabi concept. Look for natural handmade fabrics and accessories. Natural stone, clay and wood become interesting in a Wabi-Sabi space as they exhibit changes that can be observed over time. Remember this style  is not a shabby chic . These pieces are not intentionally distressed to look antique they are pieces that have evolved over a natural cycle of growth.  I'm also in favor of letting filtered light permeate our homes. Too much harsh light doesn't give one lift one's mood and general well-being as much as filtered light. A Wabi-Sabi aesthetic is big on hanging thin, gauzy curtains inside. With all that said go ahead and look at some ideas below and get inspired!

Boring Nightstands Are Out!

A ring without a diamond and a beach without sand is like a bed without a nightstand. Without one, its beauty fades and silently begs for the other to return. In the past a nightstand was defined as a piece of furniture sold in two’s, was a fairly small boring table, and featured drawers. Thank goodness trends restyle and they have been transformed into an elegant focal point that can reflect your design aesthetic.

By your side when butterfly kisses softly close your lids to the awaking of a new day,  today I want to give these beauties the love and attention they deserve. I know it may be difficult to find a nightstand combo that has the look, function and scale you need. You may wish that there was some sort of algorithm on the internet that could ship you the perfect set. This is where I want to help. Below you’ll find a few of our past bedroom installations that will help inspire you. I have also incorporated a few bedside tables you can click on and purchase on your own. Creating a balanced look,  these bedside tables will make your sanctuary appear cleaner, more put together and stylish.

Having two different bedside tables can look stylish. Mixing elements is the key to mismatching utopia. Two different tables can give a room a more eclectic vibe. If you go for two different styles make sure there is a cohesiveness so that they don’t look too random or implausible.

You don't have room for 2 bedside tables!  No problem!! Choose 1 to go in the middle of like the bedroom below. Make sure to choose one with a little more storage space like a three-drawer table that allows for clutter-free storage.

Metal bedside tables can play many roles in a space. They can play the leading role with their unique details and large presence or stay quietly pretty while holding a great read and glass of wine.
An ode to modern architecture, the metal base side table demonstrates perfect simplicity and clarity of form.

AND lastly here are a few of my favorite standout bedside tables that can add a little interest to your bedroom space..

Was That A Pumpkin That Just Fell On My Head? ~Fall Home Decor 2017~

As I was mirthfully walking down the isle of my favorite home décor stores when I was stopped dead in my tracks by the site of brightly painted pumpkins. Yes, that is what I said, pumpkins! The vision of the plastic, pulp free robust symbols of the upcoming holidays got me thinking of Fall. Believe it or not, it’s just around the corner and I’m setting my sights on what hues and home design trends are about make their presence felt. When the weather makes a shift (a slight one for those of us here in Florida), you can make a few modifications to your home as well. There are a lot of trends that are really beautiful, but not everyone wants or needs to give their home a complete makeover. I can show you a few  and easy ways to transition your home to the look of fall 2017.

Velvet!

The beauty in velvet is its ability to speak. It should have an elegant soft voice that’s heard, without over powering the conversation. It’s important to choose one show stopping upholstery fabric and velvet may just be your ticket! The fabric feels luxurious and welcoming for fall. When combined with smooth metals and natural textures it adds visual interest and palpable alleviation. If you don’t have the budget for an upholstered sofa add a velvet throw or accent pillows instead!

Blush

I am lovingeverything blush! From vintage glassware and bedding to my Sunday Brunch’s eye shadow, this refreshing color speaks of youth and femininity. If you’re not the frilly type popping a blush throw or frame into a space is less serious, and overwhelming.  By coordinating blush with elements and materials found in nature you can create a more contemporary edge and looks stunning mixed with stone and marble. If you are looking for a more ethereal look you can create a space that's monochromatic. No matter how you choose to add this gorgeous color into your space it will certainly keep you blushing.I’m asked what colors look best with blush from time to time. I say it looks great with greys or warm neutrals, and fresh when paired with rose gold metallic or trendy copper. Here are a few of my favorite ways to incorporate the color blush into your home's decor.

Classic White

Hardly boring, neutral white can virtually go with everything and anything. From glossy to chalky it’s a calm and cool vibe that I love! White adds an inherent easiness to any space it graces. It fits seamlessly into any design scheme or style. I love how crisp white walls can bring a modern edge to a room’s vintage stylings or how a white accessory can pop against a dark wood toned console table.

Furniture & Accessories That Double As Art

Art is taking center stage this fall. It’s no longer an afterthought or left as the last part of the puzzle. People will be basing their entire rooms around it and I’m not just talking about the art you hang on your walls. I’m talking about furniture and accessories that double as art. We will see interiors that are anchored not only by art but artful design pieces.

~Dive Right INTO A POOL OF GEOMETRIC BLISS ~

Are you craving a little something different in your home’s decor? Are you looking to occupy a space in your home that has an architectural flair? If you are,  you may want to add a little geometry to your world. I’m not speaking of the math class you took in high school, but the geometric world of funky hexagons and fearless patterns. The geometric trend is a perfect way to energize your home. It’s a fabulous way to breathe life into a space and enhance a minimalist point of view and give a room an incredible polished look. If you want a room to look like you hired a designer, you’re going to have add a few pops of visual interest to your interiors. Patterns are fundamental and meet interior designer’s basic requirements while looking famously modern.Deciding to incorporate geometric into your home can be easy, but I am always asked how far should a person go? Do you use the patterns as an accent role or do you want to make a  bold statement with wallpaper? It’s about understanding which elements of a room should play the leading role and which should act as an assisting director. If you choose to add more than one geometric pattern go ahead. Having a slight variation between the tones keeps things feeling unoriginal. I just love the unexpected and so may you! Below are a few ways to you can add a little geometric flair to a space. Always remember have a little fun, be a little daring and never be boring!

An open airy construction piece just as West Elem’s below can provide and artful component to a negative space!

Sophistication meets geometry with a prism coffee table. It has a refined softness to it while furthering the modern look you are trying to achieve. It stimulates the senses every time one engages with it.

Blue & Gold Geometric Shower Curtain By Society 6

By adding a bold geometric rug you can make a bold WOW statement, like our designers did below. They added a small geometric metal accessory to tie the look together:

Another geometric trend is the addition of patterns and finishes to a piece of furniture. Here are two of our favorites!

The Haynes design is an innovative, architectural display and storage solution of pretty Mondrian geometries grounded by a black lacquer inset base. The grid design features useful pedestals and shelves that cantilever, suspend or float on the substantial iron frame.

50 Shades Of Blue

Did you know that there are over 50 shades of the color blue? From the lightest icy shade of  "Alice Blue" to one of the richest, 100% saturated "Oxford Blue",  this magnificent color stays sincere and honest. The color blue commands a room and without being fussy or confrontational.  It's like a best friend that is giving and honors the quality of a great friendship. Lighter hues can inspire relaxation and calmness to a bedroom. Crisp darker hues can add an immediate crispness to a room while blue stripes add layers and richness to a room. I love the classic combination of blue and white. It's like wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, it never goes out of style. The mixture of the two colors can be dressed up or down. When compared to black and white it can be more welcoming, maybe a little more likable, some may say.

Blue is the #1 favorite color of all people. From shades of the ethereal sky to the coolness of the waters edge the color blue can bring a beauty to your home.  From drapery to area rugs here are a few ways you can incorporate blue into your home's decor and a few of my favorite designs from Beasley & Henley.
